The day went pretty well, especially considering
yesterday afternoon.
Fortunately we were close to having everything done
yesterday when Jim opened the under-sink cabinet in the kitchen (something we
might very easily not have done) and found a whole lot of water. A huge
leak had developed in the faucet assembly. After much effort and cussing
on Jim's part, he agreed we'd have to replace the faucet and a plumber would
have to do it. I got hold of our highly recommended plumber (Evan
Rhinehart at All About Plumbing in case any of you need a great plumber 24/7),
then zipped over to Lowe's to buy a new faucet. Evan came within an hour
and had it installed an hour later. We are so lucky this happened before
we left. We always cut our water off when we leave so nothing should have
happened while we were gone but arriving home to find this problem would not
have gone over well. We got a much better faucet in the process, the high-arch
style we wanted originally which will make giving Lovie a bath in the kitchen
sink a lot easier. :-D (Lovie is not impressed.)
We got off to a good start this morning, just about the
time we were aiming for. Had a reasonably uneventful drive with light traffic.
Hit a 10-minute back-up near the I-40 exit to Harmon Den which has been under
construction forever. It doesn't seem to be any better than when we went
through there a year ago, but they have done a lot of cutting back of the rock
wall, no doubt to improve the landslide situation.
Traffic back-up for miles near I-40 Harmon Den
exit. We came upon it in a curve and just barely got stopped.
Please ignore the dirty windshield.
The drive up I-75 from Knoxville to Georgetown (just
north of Lexington) is really beautiful, particularly the mountainous area
close to the TN/KY line.
Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of it because we
were dealing with a very frustrating problem of billowing diesel exhaust every
time we went up hill and I was watching the exhaust more than the
scenery. Jim had a tuning kit installed a few months ago which is
supposed to significantly improve our fuel consumption (it already has), but
the truck kept going into overdrive when it shouldn't. He talked to the mechanic who installed the kit and found a
work-around which stopped it. We may still have to get a transmission
synchronizer but hope that can wait until we get home. If it ain't one
thing it's another…….the latest version of whack-a-mole.
On top of Jim's mounting irritation with the exhaust
problem, Gwen decided to yowl very loudly for several minutes at inopportune
times. (Goblin very kindly remained quiet.) Jim does not enjoy
listening to Gwen's raucous comments while he's driving anyway and having to do
it while he was so frustrated with the truck was definitely not good
timing. Good thing it wasn't constant or she might have been deposited in
the RV for the duration of the drive (something we've never done, for those of
you who are concerned for her welfare).
The campground we're in tonight is convenient to I-75 but
quiet which is what every RVer wants. Our site is all gravel which isn't
inviting for sitting outside but the big thing is that it's so level we didn't
have to unhook from the truck and is a very easy in-and-out. We'll take
that over an attractive sitting area any day for a one-night stop.
Gravel site but pretty surroundings.
Tomorrow we'll be going around Cincinnati and across
Indiana and half of Illinois to a little town called Mahomet which is just west of
Champaign. Tonight is our last in Eastern Time until we get
home. It's always nice to gain an hour going west...not so nice going in
the other direction.
