6/15 - Georgetown, Kentucky

We've set off on our summer travels to explore places we haven't seen in Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois, as well as a few places we've been to before.

Yesterday didn't end well.  Jim went out to check the RV around 11:00 last night and discovered the temperature in the fridge was 55 degrees.  Of course we immediately unloaded it and put everything back in the house fridge and freezer, worrying about whether the fridge had a real problem or if it was caused by the very hot day with no air conditioning on inside the RV and the doors being opened a lot to load it.  This morning it was down to 34 degrees so we think the weather and loading was the problem.  It's not the first time this has happened, but every time it does we wonder if it's going to return to normal.

We got off to an early start due to getting up early for the fridge problem.  The mountains were exceptionally beautiful after last night's rain, showing once again why they're called the Smokies.

I-40 in the Pigeon River Gorge near the NC/TN line.

Crossing Douglas Lake east of Sevierville, TN.  It's good to see it at full pond.

The 300 mile drive to Georgetown, KY, about 15 miles north of Lexington, includes one of the most beautiful sections of interstate we've traveled. It's one we've been on numerous times and always look forward to seeing again.  I didn't take any pictures of the interesting geology along I-75 because I thought I had plenty of pictures from the past two years.  When I checked later I found I hadn't taken any then either so we're out of luck until we travel this route again.

The drive was uneventful except for a cloudburst near the TN/KY line.  We could see blue sky and billowing white clouds through the water but could barely make out the road. Fortunately it didn't last long. Last year we went through one of these toad-chokers as we were going around Indianapolis in very heavy traffic which was extremely nerve-wracking. This time the rain hit us in a much better location.

We're at Whispering Hills RV Park in Georgetown for the night.  Our site is so level we didn't have to unhook the truck which is a treat.  Tomorrow we'll continue north on I-75 to Dayton, Ohio, which will be a short drive of only 140 miles.
