Not much to report today. Took Gabe (my cousin) with us to the Arizona State Museum on the University of AZ campus. It’s a beautiful campus right in downtown Tucson where there’s no parking. We got lucky and found a handicapped spot in a parking lot, then found out parking is free on weekends. Probably wouldn’t have found a spot at all had we gone during the week.
The museum is small but very good……all Native American art and history. Had a personal docent tour for just the three of us so probably learned more than we would have in a larger group. They have a huge collection of Native American pottery and baskets.
While we were in the museum Jim was sitting on a bench near the door. A young man came up to him, around 20 years old and no doubt a student… and thanked him for his service. The docent for the tour just going off overheard it. She came up to Jim after her tour was over (he was sitting on the bench again) and told him it almost made her cry when the student did that. Jim told her it almost made him cry too……but he didn’t. It still chokes him up when people do that, and to have a young person do it is unusual.
Pictures for the day……..
The museum with a cactus garden donated by a couple, probably alumni.
The front and side of the museum to give an idea of how beautiful the campus is.
